Important message from the LSSC President
This communication is to inform everyone that the Mid-Season Tournament has been moved to Saturday, July 19, 2014 and Sunday, July 20, 2014. I understand that this may conflict with some of our member’s vacation plans and schedules and I would like to take this opportunity to explain to our members the reason behind the move.
The York Region Soccer Association, which is our district association, approached LSSC a few weeks ago to request that we host the U9 - U12 Boys & Girls Outdoor Fixture Festival on July 12th. This Festival was previously scheduled to be held in Vaughan; however, the municipality closed some of the fields that were booked for the event which meant that the YRSA no longer had a venue. LSSC was approached because it is the only other soccer club in the YRSA with sufficient fields to accommodate the event and the event is mandatory for every YRSL Youth Competitive/Rep Team (U9-U12) to attend. With the YRSA not being able to host the event, they would not be complying with their plan for LTPD in those age divisions and it would also displace almost 200 teams and 10,000 people. We offered to host the event on an alternate date; however, as Competitive Teams travel to compete in tournaments on weekends there were no other dates available.
This is a one-time accommodation and next year our tournament will go back to the second weekend in July. The YRSA will still bring the event to Georgina, but it will be planned around our pre-existing schedule.
In addition to the change to the mid-season tournament date, the following changes will be occurring:
First Kicks Soccer will be cancelled July 12th – the cancelled games will be played on August 16, 2014 at the regular scheduled times.
The First Kicks Festival will now be held with the Laid Memorial Cup Tournament on August 23, 2014
The Adult Mixed League and Women’s League games will be the evening of Friday, July 11, 2014 at 7pm.
I understand that not all of our membership will agree with our decision; however, we did feel it was in our member’s best interests to be good neighbors to the other members of our soccer family. This event will bring 10,000 people to our community which will be great for our Club, our community, businesses and tourism. As such, I hope everyone will try to understand our predicament and support our decision. We look forward to seeing you all at the Mid-Season Tournament July 19th and 20th.
